The PGY2 Residency Program in Cardiology Pharmacy is a 12-month, full time curriculum divided into monthly and longitudinal experiences. It is designed to provide the resident with clinical insights and practical experiences in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy care.

The program will teach the resident to serve as an expert on the optimal use of medications used in the care of patients with cardiovascular diseases with a focus on ambulatory care.

The resident will gain additional training and experience through exposure to a variety of cardiovascular disease states, 病人直接护理, 基于实践的研究, 和教学.

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on PharmD education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. 居民 who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, 学术, 或其他专业职位, along with board certification in cardiology pharmacy (BCCP).

Training Experience/Responsibilities

• Active participation in patient care rounds
• Active participation in providing ambulatory care patient appointments 
• Developing evidence-based practice protocols

The resident will engage in educational activities including didactic and experiential precepting of 药学博士 students from ACPHS. They will also develop advanced clinical pharmacy and leadership skills by providing continuing education to healthcare practitioners, 包括日常服务.

在实习结束前, the resident will complete a 基于实践的研究 project to be presented at a national meeting. The project will focus on promoting the growth of pharmacy services in ambulatory care settings and providing outcome evidence demonstrating the benefits of pharmacist involvement.

Other related activities will include medical writing (e.g., 回顾论文, newsletter articles) and involvement in local and national professional organizations focused on cardiovascular care.

如何申请

资格

Before applying for the PGY2 Specialty Cardiology Residency Program, applicants must:

• Be self-directed, motivated, and display a commitment to professional involvement
• Have strong interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to provide patient-centered care in an ambulatory pharmacy setting
• Possess a PharmD degree from an ACPE accredited School/College of Pharmacy 
• Be eligible for a license to practice pharmacy in New York State 
• 做一个U.S. citizen or carry a permanent resident VISA
• Have completed, or expect to complete, a PGY1 ASHP-accredited residency program 

The resident must also complete their licensure within two (2) months of beginning the residency.
